Former Acting Director of the National Lotteries Board (NLB), Thusitha Halloluwa, has been remanded until June 2 by the Fort Magistrate’s Court in connection with an ongoing investigation into the alleged misuse of state property.
Halloluwa was taken into custody earlier this week as part of a broader inquiry into financial irregularities and the alleged misappropriation of government assets during his tenure.
Authorities have yet to release specific details regarding the nature of the charges, but sources close to the investigation indicate that the arrest follows months of preliminary inquiries conducted by anti-corruption units.
The Fort Magistrate, after considering submissions made by the prosecution, ordered Halloluwa to be held in remand custody until further hearings can be conducted. The magistrate emphasized the importance of continued investigations, citing the potential for interference if the suspect were to be released at this stage.
Officials from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) are leading the inquiry, which is expected to widen in scope as more witnesses are questioned and documentation is reviewed.
