Sri Lanka Customs has officially launched the Motor Vehicle Verification App, aimed at empowering consumers and curbing fraudulent practices. The announcement was made by Director General of Customs, Sarath Nonis, at a recent press briefing.

The innovative mobile application enables users to access comprehensive details about any imported vehicle in Sri Lanka, including whether it has been legally imported and if all relevant duties and taxes have been fully paid.

“This app represents a crucial step in our ongoing mission to modernize and digitize Customs services,” said Nonis. “It provides the public with easy access to essential information, which will not only protect buyers but also reinforce compliance within the industry.”

The initiative is part of a broader campaign by Lanka Customs to tackle tax evasion and enhance regulatory oversight in the automotive import sector. Officials highlighted that the app would help eliminate discrepancies in documentation and prevent unscrupulous dealers from passing off illegally imported vehicles to unsuspecting customers.

Consumers can now verify vehicle data from the comfort of their homes, significantly reducing the risk of falling victim to scams or fraudulent transactions.

The Motor Vehicle Verification App is expected to be a game-changer in strengthening public confidence and ensuring greater transparency across the vehicle trade landscape in Sri Lanka.
