The Disaster Management Center (DMC) has reported that 1,757 individuals from 485 families have been affected by adverse weather conditions triggered by the activation of the southwest monsoon since yesterday evening (May 29).
According to the DMC, nine districts across the island have experienced heavy rainfall and strong winds, leading to widespread damage and disruption. Preliminary reports indicate that three houses have been completely destroyed, while an additional 365 homes have sustained partial damage.
Emergency response teams have been deployed in the most severely affected areas to assist those displaced and to begin damage assessment and relief efforts. Authorities are closely monitoring the evolving weather situation and have urged the public to remain vigilant, particularly in landslide-prone and low-lying areas.
The Department of Meteorology has forecast continued unsettled weather in the coming days, warning of further rain and wind in several regions. The public is advised to stay updated through official channels and to take necessary precautions to ensure safety.
