The Minister made this statement while participating in a special discussion to obtain ideas and suggestions from media organizations for the formulation of the National Media Policy.

This discussion was held at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute in Colombo to obtain ideas and suggestions from all media organizations, both public and private, for the preparation of a national media policy.

The primary objective of drafting this draft is to enhance the professionalism of journalists and create an optimal environment in which they can work for the common good within a safe and accountable framework.

Attention was drawn to the amendments that should be made to the currently prepared draft and the matters that should be included.

The importance of preparing the draft in all three languages, as well as suggestions submitted by media organizations, were discussed here.

Minister Nalinda Jayatissa stated that attention will be paid to the two issues of ensuring freedom of speech and expression when formulating national media policies.
