
Heavy rain & strong winds expected in several districts

Key districts likely to experience heavy rainfall include Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle, and Matara. Meanwhile, several spells of showers are expected in the North-Central Province and in Mannar and Hambantota districts.
Strong winds between 50–60 kmph are forecast over the western slopes of the central hills, and in the Northern, North-Central, and North-Western provinces. Winds up to 30–40 kmph are expected in other parts of the island.
Rough Seas and High Winds – Marine Warning in Effect
The sea areas surrounding the island will be affected by adverse weather conditions. Showers or thundershowers are expected in the sea areas off the coast from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle, with wind speeds ranging from 40–70 kmph in some regions.
Sea areas from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and Mannar, and from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota, will be very rough at times. Mariners are strongly advised against venturing into these waters until further notice.
In addition, wave heights could reach up to 3.0 meters, and near-shore sea surges are possible from Mannar to Hambantota, posing risks to coastal activities and communities.
The public, particularly those living in vulnerable areas, and naval and fishing communities are urged to take necessary precautions and stay tuned to further updates from the Department of Meteorology.
