The Department of Immigration and Emigration has announced a revision to its one-day passport issuance service, with changes set to take effect from Monday, June 2, 2025.

According to an official media release issued today, the 24-hour passport service  introduced on February 18, 2025 will conclude on Friday, May 30, 2025. In its place, a revised system will be implemented starting next week.

Under the new arrangement, one-day passport applications will be accepted exclusively at the Department’s Head Office in Battaramulla. The service window will operate from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and will be available to both individuals who have scheduled appointments in advance and those with urgent or priority travel needs.

The Department emphasized that the changes are part of ongoing efforts to streamline passport services and better manage the growing volume of applications.

Applicants are encouraged to ensure all necessary documents are in order prior to visiting the Head Office to avoid delays. Further information can be obtained through the Department’s official website or customer service hotlines.
