
Showery and Windy Conditions Expected to Intensify

Showers or thundershowers are expected at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, and North-western provinces and in the districts of Nuwara-Eliya, Kandy, Galle, and Matara. The rainfall may be particularly intense, with fairly heavy falls exceeding 75 mm likely in parts of Sabaragamuwa, Nuwara-Eliya, Kandy, Galle, and Matara.
A few light showers may also occur in the North-central province and in Mannar, Hambantota, and Matale districts.
Strong Winds Warning:
Strong winds, reaching 40–50 kmph, are expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills, as well as in the Northern, North-central, and North-western provinces, and in Hambantota and Trincomalee districts.
The public is advised to take precautionary measures to minimize damage from temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Sea Area Forecast (Next 24 Hours):
South-westerly winds will prevail across all sea areas around the island. Wind speeds will range between 40–50 kmph, increasing up to 60–70 kmph at times in the sea areas from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and Mannar, and from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota.
Rough to Very Rough Seas:
Sea areas off the coast from Chilaw to Kankasanthurai via Puttalam and Mannar, and from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota will be very rough at times.
Seas from Chilaw to Galle via Colombo and Kankasanthurai to Trincomalee via Mullaittivu will be rough at times.
Wave heights between 2.5 m and 3.0 m are expected.
Swell waves may cause sea surges in nearshore areas from Mannar to Pottuvil via Puttalam, Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota.
Naval and fishing communities are strongly advised not to venture into these high-risk sea areas and to remain vigilant, especially during thundershowers when very rough seas and gusty winds may occur.
