Dr. W. A. R. T. Wickramarachchi appointed as Director General of Agriculture

Dr. Wickramarachchi, a Special Grade Officer of the Sri Lanka Agricultural Service, is currently serving as the Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Lands and Irrigation. His appointment to the top post in the Department of Agriculture was proposed by the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Lands and Irrigation and received Cabinet approval with immediate effect.

With a distinguished career in agricultural administration and policy, Dr. Wickramarachchi is expected to bring strong leadership and expertise to the department, particularly at a time when the sector faces both challenges and opportunities in ensuring food security and sustainable agricultural development.

The Ministry expressed confidence that under Dr. Wickramarachchi’s guidance, the Department of Agriculture will continue to advance its mission of improving agricultural productivity and supporting the nation's farming communities.
