
Recovery operations underway for crashed SLAF Bell 212 helicopter

An on-site investigation has been launched into the circumstances of the crash, led by a nine-member board appointed by the Commander of the Air Force. The team is currently conducting detailed assessments at the scene of the incident.
The crash resulted in multiple casualties and injuries. Two pilots and four army personnel who sustained injuries are currently receiving treatment at the Polonnaruwa Hospital. The SLAF stated that after initial medical evaluations, the army personnel will be transferred to the Army Hospital, while the air force personnel will be moved to the Hingurakgoda Hospital for further care.
Tragically, several lives were lost in the incident. The bodies of the deceased air force and army personnel are expected to be handed over to their families today, following the completion of post-mortem examinations.
The SLAF has pledged full cooperation with all investigative and recovery efforts and has extended condolences to the families affected by the tragedy.
