PHI Association Urges Mandatory Registration of Vesak Dansals Before May 9

Speaking to the media, the Association’s Secretary emphasized that this measure is essential to ensure food safety and public health during the religious festivities. “All individuals and organizations intending to conduct Dansals must register in advance and consult with the Public Health Inspector for guidance on hygiene and safety,” he stated.
To support these efforts, over 3,000 public health inspectors will be deployed islandwide to inspect Dansals, as well as food stalls, hotels, and mobile vendors operating during the Vesak period. The inspections will focus on food quality, hygiene standards, and potential risks of infectious diseases transmitted through food and water.
The Association stressed the importance of cooperation from Dansal donors and other food vendors to prevent the spread of illness during the festival. The Secretary noted that organizers can obtain more information and assistance from their nearest public health examination office.
The registration initiative is part of a broader public health campaign aimed at ensuring a safe and joyous Vesak celebration for all.
