Special statement from the Chief Prelates

The sacred event, which offered devotees a rare opportunity to see and worship the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha, attracted hundreds of thousands of participants from across the country and abroad.
This historic event, named the Sri Dalada Malama, was held from April 18 to April 27 and marks the first time in 16 years that the Sacred Relic was publicly displayed. Initiated at the request of President Ranil Wickremesinghe, the pilgrimage was organized with full state support.
In a joint statement, Most Venerable Thibbatuwawe Sri Sumangala Thero of the Malwatta Chapter, Most Venerable Warakagoda Sri Gnanarathana Thero of the Asgiri Chapter, and Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela expressed their blessings and heartfelt gratitude to all who contributed to the event’s success.
The Mahanayake Theros commended the Sri Lankan government, especially President Wickremesinghe, for his personal involvement and the extensive coordination provided by public institutions. They also extended thanks to the security forces, the Governor of the Central Province, the Ceylon Electricity Board, and various public service sectors for their round-the-clock commitment.
Special appreciation was given to the staff of Sri Dalada Maligawa, Basnayake Nilames of both the four main devalayas and outlying temples, and media institutions for their roles in supporting and publicizing the event. The Mahanayake Theros also acknowledged the unity and cooperation shown by Tamil, Islamic, and Catholic communities in Kandy.
The statement concluded with blessings for all who participated in and supported this unprecedented spiritual gathering, which stands as a testament to Sri Lanka’s religious unity and cultural heritage.
