President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has strongly condemned the recent terrorist attack in Kashmir that claimed the lives of 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen.

The condemnation came during a telephone conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi where the Sri Lankan leader expressed deep sorrow and solidarity with the Indian people.

The attack occurred on April 22 in the scenic Baisaran meadow of Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination in Jammu and Kashmir. Several others were reportedly injured in the assault, which has been described as one of the deadliest acts of terrorism in the region since the 2019 Pulwama attack.

President Dissanayake emphasized the need for regional cooperation to combat terrorism and ensure the safety of civilians. He further noted that the attack was a significant and alarming incident, especially in the context of the relative calm since the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019.

Prime Minister Modi expressed his appreciation for Sri Lanka’s support and reaffirmed India’s commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region.

The international community has begun to voice concern over the escalation of violence in Kashmir, with several nations calling for a thorough investigation and swift action against those responsible.
