Inspector General of Police (IGP) Priyantha Weerasooriya has appointed Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shani Abeysekara to the committee investigating the Presidential Report on the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks.
With this latest appointment, the number of members on the committee has increased from four to five. The committee was formed to critically assess the findings and recommendations outlined in the Presidential Commission’s report into the coordinated bombings that claimed over 250 lives.
SSP Abeysekara, a former Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), brings extensive experience in high-profile investigations. His inclusion is expected to enhance the committee's investigative capacity and ensure a more thorough examination of the report’s implications for national security and law enforcement accountability.
