Colombo: The Road Development Authority (RDA) has announced that revenue generated from expressway tolls on April 11 and 12 surpassed Rs. 100 million, reflecting a surge in vehicular movement ahead of the festive season.
According to R.A.D. Kahatapitiya, Director of the Expressway Operation Maintenance and Management Division, a total of 297,736 vehicles used the expressway network during the two days, generating an income of Rs. 102,378,800.
On April 11, 163,541 vehicles were recorded on the expressways, contributing Rs. 54,066,450 in toll revenue. The following day, April 12, saw 134,195 vehicles, adding Rs. 47,012,350 to the total.
Officials attribute the increased traffic volumes to holiday travel in the lead-up to the Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebrations, a period known for heightened intercity movement.
The RDA continues to monitor expressway usage closely and has urged motorists to follow safety guidelines and travel regulations during the festive period.
