The Department of Meteorology has issued a weather report stating that showers or thundershowers are likely to occur in parts of the Central, Sabaragamuwa, Western, Southern, and Uva provinces, as well as in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts during the afternoon or night.

 Additionally, coastal areas in the Western and North-Western provinces, along with Galle and Matara districts, may experience morning showers.

The public is urged to take necessary precautions against temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers to avoid potential damage and ensure safety.

Weather Alert: Showers and Rough Seas Expected Around the Island

The Department of Meteorology has issued a 24-hour weather forecast warning of showers and potentially rough seas around the island.

Showers or thundershowers are expected in the sea areas stretching from Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle. Evening or night showers are also likely in the eastern sea regions from Trincomalee to Hambantota via Batticaloa.

Winds will be westerly to south-westerly, ranging between 25-35 kmph, with stronger gusts of up to 50 kmph expected particularly in the sea areas off the coasts from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar, and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota.

These areas may experience fairly rough sea conditions, and mariners are advised to exercise caution. Additionally, thundershowers may bring temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas.

The public and fishing communities are urged to stay updated and take necessary safety precautions.
