The General Secretary of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), Tilvin Silva, has announced that the party will pursue legal action based on the findings of the Batalanda Commission Report. Silva made this statement during a press briefing held at the party's headquarters

"The commission was not appointed by us; it was established during Chandrika's government. This report, which had been kept hidden, has now been presented by us. There is no need for mudslinging as there is a commission report. This report has been tabled in Parliament and is available for everyone to see. A debate is also ongoing in Parliament," Silva stated.

Mr.Silva emphasized that the report had already been made public and that any legal proceedings would be based solely on its findings. He also addressed recent statements made by former President Ranil Wickremesinghe, asserting that while the President had made remarks on the issue, he had not denied the allegations leveled against him.

"Recently, Ranil Wickremesinghe made a statement but did not deny the allegations against him. Additionally, many people, including victims of torture and even some police officers, are ready to provide evidence about the events at Batalanda. This is something that will proceed according to the law," Silva remarked.

Mr.Silva continued to stress that the JVP's actions were not motivated by revenge or political mudslinging but by a commitment to ensuring that the law is enforced. He noted that despite some critics claiming that the move was politically motivated or that the President would not face any consequences, the JVP would continue its legal pursuit without deviation.

"There are two types of criticism: some say this is an attempt to sling mud and seek revenge, while others believe that Ranil will not be punished and nothing will come of it. Regardless of what anyone says, we will act according to the law," he affirmed.

Legal action based on the Batalanda Commission Report is expected to proceed in the future, according to Mr.Silva, as the JVP maintains its stance on holding those responsible for the events at Batalanda accountable under the law.
