The Attorney General's Department has filed an indictment in the High Court against Namal Rajapaksa, a Member of Parliament and the son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, in connection with the controversial Krish project.

The indictment accuses Rajapaksa of being involved in alleged financial irregularities and misuse of funds related to the Krish project, a digital platform aimed at supporting local businesses. The project, launched in 2018, has been the subject of public scrutiny due to its perceived lack of transparency and questionable handling of resources.

The legal proceedings against Rajapaksa have garnered significant attention, given his political influence and family ties.

The charges pertain to allegations that he played a role in facilitating the improper allocation of funds for the project, leading to a loss of public money.

Rajapaksa, who has denied any wrongdoing, is expected to appear in court in the coming weeks as the case progresses. His legal team has indicated they will vigorously defend the MP, asserting that the charges are politically motivated.

The case is likely to have far-reaching implications for Sri Lankan politics, as it could influence public perceptions of the Rajapaksa family's ongoing influence in the country’s political landscape.
