United Kingdom's Indo Pacific Minister, Catherine West, met with Sri Lanka's Opposition Leader, Sajith Premadasa, in Colombo today to discuss the country's ongoing economic, social, and political challenges. The meeting, aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations, was attended by Minister West's Private Secretary, British High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Andrew Patrick, and Second Secretary Alexander Smith.

Representing the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), former MP Eran Wickramaratne and Members of Parliament Harshana Rajakaruna, Mujibur Rahman, and Kavinda Jayawardena were also present.

During the talks, Opposition Leader Premadasa emphasized the need for international support to address Sri Lanka’s severe economic crisis. He specifically called for assistance in promoting tourism to boost economic recovery, highlighting the potential of the United Kingdom as a key source of visitors.

The discussion underscored both sides' commitment to deepening bilateral ties and working collaboratively to address critical issues facing Sri Lanka.
