Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Ananda Wijepala has announced that the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) to be operate under the supervision of a Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG).
He explained that the division will remain under the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), headed by a senior DIG. This move aims to streamline and speed up financial crime investigations, which have been stalled in recent days.
The minister also revealed that a cabinet paper will be presented on January 20, proposing structural reforms within the police force.
The FCID was originally established to investigate financial crimes but has faced recent challenges in its operations. The new changes are expected to revitalize its functions and enhance its efficiency.
