The Ministry of Health has announced efforts to enhance the drug procurement process in Sri Lanka.
Health Ministry Secretary Dr. Anil Jasinghe revealed that discussions with the Procurement Commission will be held to identify better methods for buying medicines.
He emphasized the need to avoid drug shortages caused by suspending tenders over quality issues and called for improved systems to ensure high-quality drug purchases.
Meanwhile, the National Medicine Regulatory Authority (NMRA) has proposed reducing the prices of 90 types of medicines. However, the price cuts have been delayed due to a lawsuit filed by several pharmaceutical companies in the District Court.
The NMRA plans to clarify the reasons for the delay and assures the public that the price reductions will be implemented soon.
