Sri Lanka collected a record-breaking Rs. 1,958,088 million in tax revenue in 2024, the Inland Revenue Department (IRD) announced today ( January 3).

This marks a 25.1% increase from the Rs. 1,565,419 million collected in 2023, with the total revenue rising by Rs. 392,229 million compared to last year.

The collection includes  Rs. 1,023,207 million  from income taxes and  Rs. 714,684 million  from Value Added Tax (VAT), setting a new milestone in the country’s tax history.
