The Department of Meteorology has issued an advisory for severe lightning, warning of thundershowers accompanied by intense lightning in several regions of the country.The advisory effective until 11:30 PM today includes 20 districts across multiple provinces.
The affected areas include parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, North-western, North-central, and Southern provinces, as well as the districts of Ampara, Mannar, and Vavuniya.
The public is advised to take precautions during this period, as severe lightning poses a risk to life and property. People in affected areas are urged to stay indoors, avoid using electrical appliances, and refrain from taking shelter under trees or in open fields during storms.
Meteorologists have warned that thundershowers with heavy lightning could occur in several places, and conditions are expected to persist until the late evening.
