The Meteorological Department has issued an advisory warning of increased sea wave heights in the coastal waters extending from Puttalam to Potuvil via Galle, Matara and Hambantota.

The advisory, issued at 5.30 p.m. on August 19, will remain valid until tomorrow.

According to the warning, sea waves in the offshore areas from Puttalam to Potuvil could reach heights of around 2.5 to 3.0 metres.

There is also a possibility of waves reaching the shore in areas from Beruwala to Galle and onward to Matara.
