Voter turnout in Sri Lanka's General Elections 2024 has been steadily reported across various districts, with early figures showing varied participation levels.

 In the central region, Kandy leads with a 22% turnout, followed by Badulla at 23%. Ratnapura also recorded a 25% turnout, while Nuwara-Eliya and Kegalle both reported a lower 20% participation rate.

Eastern and northern districts show a mixed pattern. Batticaloa recorded a modest 9% turnout, while Digamadulla and Polonnaruwa reported 18% and 23% respectively. Monaragala’s voter participation stands at 14%, with Matara lagging behind at 10%. On the other hand, Puttalam has seen 22% voter turnout, and Mannar stands out with a comparatively higher 28%.

Election officials have urged citizens to head to polling stations throughout the day as the process continues. The Election Commission expects further updates as the day progresses.

Turnout figures are expected to fluctuate as polling stations in some areas open later in the day. Early participation reflects diverse levels of engagement across Sri Lanka’s districts, setting the stage for what is expected to be a significant election.
