Police Spokesman, DIG Nihal Thalduwa, announced that approximately 64,000 police officers will be deployed starting today (12)to ensure the security of the general election across all constituencies.
DIG Thalduwa stated that 13,383 polling stations have been set up for the total of 13,314 constituencies, with police officers assigned to duty on election day, the following day, and potentially longer if necessary.
The deployment will include nearly 3,200 Special Task Force (STF) officers, along with 12,227 personnel directly involved in election-related duties, bringing the total number of police officers involved to around 70,000.
In addition to the police force, nearly 11,000 army personnel will be stationed at key hotspots that have been vacated to accommodate police officers. Thalduwa confirmed that the military is on standby, ready to assist if needed.
The police spokesman also called on the public to support efforts to ensure a free and peaceful election.
