The Ministry of Education has released a new circular directing school principals and education authorities to manage and minimize the negative effects of school social media groups introduced during the Covid-19 pandemic as a part of the long-distance learning method.

According to the circular, reports have surfaced regarding harmful impacts from student groups on platforms such as WhatsApp, Viber, and Messenger, initially set up for educational purposes during the pandemic. To address these concerns, principals and education authorities are instructed to take on admin roles in these groups to help control any adverse effects.

This directive, issued by the Secretary to the Education Ministry, has been sent to provincial chief secretaries, provincial education secretaries, provincial education directors, zonal education directors, school principals, and principals of Pirivena institutions.
