The Meteorological Department has issued a weather advisory warning of showers and thundershowers across several regions of Sri Lanka today.

Showers or thundershowers are expected at times in the Northern and North-western Provinces, as well as in the Puttalam and Trincomalee districts. Conditions are likely to worsen in the afternoon, with heavy rainfall likely to occur in several other areas of the island, particularly after 1:00 pm.

In the morning, light to moderate showers may affect the Western Province and coastal districts, including Galle, Matara, Ampara, and Batticaloa. However, the more significant rainfall is forecasted to be in the Central, Sabaragamuwa, and Uva provinces, where fairly heavy showers exceeding 75 mm could occur in certain areas.

The Meteorological Department also cautioned that temporary localized strong winds and lightning could accompany the thundershowers, potentially causing damage. The general public is urged to take necessary precautions, including securing loose objects and staying indoors during thunderstorms, to minimize the risk of harm.
