A tense scene unfolded today (5 November) in Mipitiya, Nawalapitiya, as Pastor Jerome Fernando faced strong opposition from locals during his visit to a site where a rehabilitation center for children with mental disorders is under construction.
Residents voiced concerns, alleging that the center’s true purpose was to serve as a religious site disguised as a rehabilitation facility. When Pastor Jerome arrived, villagers gathered in protest, prompting the Nawalapitiya Police to step in and maintain order.
Due to the intense opposition, Pastor Jerome eventually left the location with his security team.
