Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe has stressed the need for experienced individuals to be elected as parliamentary representatives in the upcoming general election. Speaking at a press conference in Colombo, Wickremesinghe warned that without experienced politicians, the country risks entering another crisis.
Responding to questions, Wickremesinghe also confirmed he has no plans to seek a seat in Parliament. “I have done my time in Parliament,” he said, explaining that he believes a new, skilled group from his alliance, represented by the “Gas Cylinder” symbol, should step forward. “These are the only people with experience who can lead effectively,” he added.
The former president claimed that the government currently lacks experienced leaders, stating, “The people who supported me over the last two years have shown their capability. Sri Lanka could be the fastest country to recover from bankruptcy, but only with strong leadership.” Using a recent bus accident as an example, he emphasized, “Without the right leaders, we could easily lose control, just like that bus that went off the road. I urge everyone to elect knowledgeable individuals to avoid future challenges.”
