Mr. Sunil Jayarathne has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) of Sri Lanka. With over 37 years of experience in the Department of Customs.
Mr. Jayarathne previously served as the Additional Director General of Customs, where he was also the Media Spokesman for the last three and a half years.
Throughout his career, Mr. Jayarathne has led numerous technical and operational initiatives, including the Customs Paperless Trade Initiative and the implementation of the World Trade Organization’s Trade Facilitation Agreement.
He played a pivotal role in the installation of non-intrusive cargo scanners at Colombo Port and has contributed significantly to customs valuation practices.
In addition to his leadership roles, Mr. Jayarathne is an Accredited Expert Trainer and Technical Adviser for the World Customs Organization’s Time Release Study. He has served as the Head of the National Trade Facilitation Committee Secretariat, overseeing the implementation of best practices in border management.
Mr. Jayarathne's extensive experience in international trade and collaboration with organizations such as the WCO and WTO will be invaluable as he takes on this new role, aiming to enhance Sri Lanka's aviation sector.
