The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) has announced that relatives of Sri Lankans employed in war-affected Middle Eastern countries can seek information or assistance by contacting the hotline number '1989' This measure comes in response to escalating tensions in the region.

In a press briefing, Gamini Senarath Yapa, Additional General Manager of International Affairs at SLBFE, confirmed that registration for workers intending to travel to Lebanon is currently suspended. However, he reassured that there is no immediate danger to Sri Lankans working in Israel or Lebanon.

“The Israeli government has implemented safety measures that all workers are advised to follow,” Yapa stated. He emphasized that concerned relatives in Sri Lanka can reach out via the hotline for any inquiries regarding their family members working abroad. 

The SLBFE continues to monitor the situation closely and is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of Sri Lankan workers in the Middle East.
