In a significant move to support paddy farmers, Agricultural Development Commissioner General Rohana Rajapaksa announced the crediting of 57 million rupees in fertilizer subsidies directly to farmers' accounts.
The initiative, which allocates 15 thousand rupees per hectare, aims to enhance agricultural productivity during the high season.
A total of 113 million rupees has been earmarked from the treasury specifically for this subsidy program. The funds have been prioritized for districts where paddy cultivation is currently underway, ensuring that farmers receive the necessary support to optimize their yields.
This financial assistance is expected to alleviate some of the challenges faced by farmers and promote sustainable agricultural practices in the region.
