The Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) informed the Colombo Magistrate's Court that two additional suspects have been detained for allegedly planning an attack on popular tourist areas in Sri Lanka, including Arugam Bay Area, reportedly at the request of foreign terrorist organizations.
TID detectives stated that, following orders from the Minister of Defense, the suspects are being held under a 90-day detention order for further questioning.
Detectives noted that suspects were arrested under the Prevention of Terrorism Act and permission was requested from the court to proceed with the investigation.
Meanwhile, Deputy Inspector General of Police and Police Spokesperson Nihal Thalduwa reported that six suspects have been arrested so far, including a Maldivian national detained yesterday (28 October), in connection with the alleged plot in Arugam Bay. The suspects remain under detention orders as investigations continue.
