Former President and UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe openly questioned President Anura Kumara Dissanayake's position in office due to his lack of a parliamentary majority, pointing out the parallel between his own prior presidency and Dissanayake's current role.

Wickremesinghe, speaking at an Election Campaign rally in Negombo today (27), reflected on his own tenure, acknowledging that he too had not won majority support, stating, “I am the former president without a majority. He is the current president without a majority.” He further claimed that the President had previously advised him to "stay at home" if he lacked the backing of the people. Further, he emphasized the importance of genuine popular support for leadership roles.

The rally was organized in support of Gampaha district candidates running under the New Democratic Front’s "Gas Cylinder" symbol.

This event marked Wickremesinghe’s first major appearance in this Election Campaign season, setting the tone for his involvement in the upcoming general election.
