Sri Lanka showcased their netball prowess with a commanding 71-47 victory over Hong Kong in the semi-final of the 13th Asian Netball Championship 2024 at the Koramangala Indoor Stadium.
The match began with both teams exchanging goals, reaching a 4-all tie. However, Sri Lanka quickly gained momentum, launching a 5-0 run driven by impressive interceptions from Gayani Dissanayake and Rashmi Perera, taking the lead to 9-4. They continued to build their advantage, finishing the first quarter with another 5-0 spurt, ending the period at 18-9.
In the second quarter, Thishala Algama scored consecutively, pushing Sri Lanka's lead to 10 goals. A mid-quarter surge saw Sri Lanka score five unanswered goals, extending their lead to 28-13. Although Hong Kong rallied towards the end of the quarter, scoring 7 of the last 10 goals, Sri Lanka maintained a comfortable lead, ending the half at 36-21 (18-12 for the quarter).
With this victory, Sri Lanka secured their spot in the finals, where they will aim for the championship title.
