Polling for the Elpitiya local council elections is underway today, with 48 centers open from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm. The Election Commission has confirmed that 55,643 voters are eligible to cast their ballots.
In preparation for the election, the transportation of ballot boxes and officials was successfully completed yesterday. Approximately 600 officers are deployed to ensure a smooth voting process.
To enhance voter identification, officials will mark the left thumb of each voter as part of the voting process. This measure addresses potential issues related to marking voters as outlined in Section 53A(3) of the Local Government Elections Ordinance (262nd Authority). Voters without a left thumb may use their right thumb or any other finger for the marking.
The Election Commission encourages all eligible voters to participate and make their voices heard.
