The Ministry of Power and Energy has appointed a committee to assess recent renewable energy agreements. According to Ministry Secretary Professor Udayanga Hemapala, the committee will examine around 40 projects, including the Mannar Wind Power Project. These projects aim to generate between 5 to 100 megawatts of electricity.

Professor Hemapala mentioned that certain project agreements may not be beneficial to Sri Lanka, and some lands designated for these projects might be better suited for agriculture.

The committee will also review the cost per unit of electricity purchased from these projects and the economic benefits they bring to the overall economy.

The committee has been directed to provide a report within a month. Based on these findings, the Ministry intends to determine the best way to proceed with these projects to ensure the maximum benefit to the country.
