His Excellency Eric Walsh, the Canadian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, visited Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya at her office today (October 23). This meeting reinforced the long-standing diplomatic relationship between Canada and Sri Lanka and discussed potential areas for future cooperation.
High Commissioner Walsh emphasized Canada’s commitment to fostering strong ties with Sri Lanka. The discussions centered around important development topics, including enhancing Sri Lanka's social protection system, promoting women’s entrepreneurship, and recognizing the significance of the small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) sector for the country's economy.
Prime Minister Amarasuriya highlighted the need for inclusivity in Sri Lanka's development, particularly in efforts to unify the nation. She also stressed the importance of prioritizing education to support long-term growth.
The meeting was attended by senior officials from the Canadian High Commission, as well as key members of the Sri Lankan delegation, including Mr. Pradeep Saputhanthri, Secretary to the Prime Minister, Mr. Mahinda Gunarathne, Additional Secretary to the Prime Minister, and Ms. Shobini K. Gunasekara, Director General of the Europe & North America Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
