The Irrigation Department has issued a flood warning for several low-lying areas along the Nilwala River, in effect until 2:00 a.m. on October 26.
Heavy rainfall has been recorded in the upper and middle sections of the Nilwala River Basin as of 1:00 a.m. today (October 24). Based on the current rainfall and river water levels at monitoring stations, there is a risk of flooding in low-lying areas, particularly in Pasgoda, Kotapola, Pitabeddara, Akuressa, Athuraliya, Malimbada, Thihagoda, Kamburupitiya, Matara, and Devinuwara.
Residents in these areas and motorists traveling through them are urged to exercise caution. The Disaster Management Authorities are advised to take necessary precautions to prevent any damages or risks from potential flooding.
