The leader of the Pivithuru Hela Urumaya (PHU), Udaya Gammanpila, has declared that he will only hand over two unpublished reports related to the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks if the government promises to make them public. Addressing the media, Gammanpila expressed concerns over what might happen if the government receives the reports but chooses not to release them.
Gammanpila stated, "Until the President or Government Spokesman Minister Vijith Herath vows to publish these reports, I will not submit them to the government." He also issued a warning that if the government fails to release the reports within a seven-day period, he will take steps to publish them himself, making them available to the public.
Earlier this week, Gammanpila urged the government to release the two unpublished committee reports on the Easter Sunday attacks, one of which is part of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry report, which was not fully presented to Parliament. The Catholic Church has also raised concerns over two additional unpublished reports by committees headed by I.M. Imam and A.N.J. de Alwis.
In response, Minister Vijitha Herath challenged Gammanpila to hand over the reports within three days, stating that it would "make things easier" for the government to proceed with publishing the findings.
The matter has drawn significant public attention, with many calling for full transparency regarding the attacks, which claimed over 250 lives.
