Sri Lankan Embassy in Israel has issued a safety advisory for Sri Lankans working in Israel, urging them to prioritise their safety
He advised Sri Lankans planning to travel to Israel to consult with their employment agency or the foreign employment bureau before making final arrangements.
A state of emergency has been declared in Israel from the morning of August 25, 2024 for a period of 48 hours. During this time, people working in offices and workplaces without safe houses have been told not to report for workplaces.
During this time, it has been asked to suspend the programs that gather in groups and not to go for entertanment activities in the areas near the parks and seashores.
Sri Lankan Ambassador to Israel, Nimal Bandara urged Sri Lankans in Israel to be vigilant about their safety.
He also reminded Sri Lankans in Israel to contact the Israeli Embassy in case of any emergencies.
Mr. Nimal Bandara, emphasised the importance of constant vigilance and advised workers to remain at their workplaces unless it is absolutely necessary to leave, instructing them to stock up on food and medicines.
He suggested the Sri Lankans kept adequate supplies of dry rations, drinking water as well as vaccines if needed
The ambassador also urged Sri Lankans to refrain from circulating pictures, videos etc. in social media in an irresponsible manner, especially those of sensitive nature.
He also called for restraint in the face of disruptions to telephone, internet, GPS services.
In an emergency, they should take shelter in a safe place, taking care of the elderly and the disabled.
The embassy will keep the Sri Lankans informed of developments and is available to provide services in an emergency, he added.
The Israeli Government has prepared hospitals and ambulance services to respond to any emergencies.The Ambassador also noted that several countries have issued warnings about potential attacks against Israel.
Currently, there are over 11,000 Sri Lankans working in Israel.
