The United States has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Sri Lanka in its ongoing pursuit of justice for the victims of the Easter Sunday bombings.

The April 2019 attack claimed 268 lives, including five US citizens, and left many others injured.

In a letter to President Ranil Wickremesinghe, US Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources Richard R. Verma emphasized the critical importance of the partnership between the two nations. Verma underscored the need for a thorough investigation and the role of civil society in ensuring accountability.

He noted that the US has been actively involved in providing legal and investigative support to Sri Lankan authorities since the attack.

“The US shares the goal of seeing justice and accountability for the Easter Sunday bombing,” Verma stated. “We remain steadfast in our partnership as the trial continues, and we respect the voices of victims and civil society in this pursuit.”
