As part of the ongoing 'Atlas Angel' bilateral exercise, a significant workshop on 'Women in Peace and Security (WPS)' was recently conducted by a contingent of women from the United States Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM).

The workshop, which highlighted the critical role of women in global peace and security efforts, took place over two days, at SLAF Base Katunayake and at SLAF Academy China Bay.

The workshop was led by Lieutenant Colonel Shanon Vinson, who brought together participants to explore into key themes surrounding WPS. The discussions covered a wide array of topics, including the global implementation and expansion of WPS principles, the importance of applying a gender perspective in peace and security initiatives, and the unique regional gender-based challenges. Additionally, the sessions explored strategies for regional WPS engagements, emphasizing collaboration and shared goals.
