More than five kilograms of methamphetamine (Ice), valued at over Rs. 50 million, were seized from a container yard in Katunayake today.
The drug haul was intercepted during a joint operation conducted by the Police Narcotic Bureau (PNB) at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Customs officials, and STF personnel from the Gonahena STF camp.
The drugs, weighing 5 kilos and 112 grams, were concealed in 63 parcels containing computer accessories sent via air mail from Dubai.
Investigations revealed that the parcel had been sent by an organized drug smuggler known as 'Dubai Nipuna'.
