Four defendants have been sentenced to death by the Colombo High Court for murdering a person with clubs and stones.
High Court Judge Aditya Patabandige delivered the verdict on Tuesday (30). The four convicted, all residents of Orugodawatta, were found guilty of the 2013 assault in Santawatta.
Of the six initially charged, one defendant died during the trial, and another was acquitted due to insufficient evidence.
The Attorney General had filed charges in 2017 under four indictments. The judge confirmed that the prosecution proved the charges beyond reasonable doubt, resulting in the death sentences for the four remaining defendants.
