Sri Lanka has entered into a significant partnership with the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) to advance its education sector through digital transformation, under the China-Aid programme.
On Thursday afternoon, Sri Lanka’s Treasury Secretary Mahinda Siriwardana announced via Twitter that he had signed a letter of exchange in Beijing, China, representing the government. The agreement was countersigned by CIDCA Vice President Yang Weiqun.
Describing the initiative as visionary, Siriwardana highlighted its focus on revolutionizing Sri Lanka’s education infrastructure. He outlined key components of the grant, which include the establishment of a cutting-edge Educational Data Centre, a Multimedia Distance Learning and Conference Solution, and a National Streaming Hub.
"In its initial phase," Siriwardana explained, "the project will introduce advanced smart classroom solutions featuring interactive high-definition distance learning capabilities across 900 classrooms in 500 schools. This effort aims to enhance the quality of education delivery and support ongoing reforms towards educational equity through digital means."
