A group of Indian nationals suspected of involvement in computer crimes was arrested during a raid on a residence in Halloluwa, Kandy, conducted by the Kandy Crime Investigations Unit last night.

According to police sources, the raid was conducted based on intelligence provided by Senior DIG Central Province Lalith Pathinayake. The organized group, consisting of 12 individuals, was detained on suspicion of engaging in various computer-related offenses.

During the operation, authorities confiscated 22 desktop computers, four laptops, over 50 sophisticated mobile phones, eleven ATM cards, and a variety of other equipment.

Further investigations revealed that the group had rented the premises for Rs. 300,000 per month to conduct their clandestine activities behind closed doors. Among their suspected activities, they are believed to have been operating an international-level betting business via the internet.

It was also disclosed that the group had employed two Indian cooks to prepare their meals and enforced restrictions on their members' movements during daylight hours.

The suspects have been handed over to the Computer Crime Investigation Division of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further proceedings.
