Sri Lanka's Ministry of Health has reassured the public of the country's readiness to handle a potential bird flu outbreak, affirming that necessary preventive measures have been implemented. 

In a recent statement, the ministry disclosed that the World Health Organization (WHO) has not issued any specific public health alerts regarding bird flu at present.

Emphasizing ongoing vigilance, the ministry highlighted that the WHO has not imposed travel restrictions related to bird flu and is actively monitoring the global situation. 

Sri Lanka's Health Ministry disclosed that its Epidemiology Unit, in collaboration with the Medical Research Institute, has initiated daily testing protocols across 20 hospitals to promptly detect any potential cases of bird flu.

Furthermore, the ministry underscored the preparedness of the Virology Department at the Medical Research Institute, equipped with essential PCR tests capable of identifying various strains including H9, H7, and H5 bird flu strains.
