The Department of Meteorology says that the people who are currently engaged in fishing activities in those areas should immediately come to the land or to a safe place.
The Meteorological Department has informed the maritime and fishing communities not to sail in the Arabian Sea area until further notice.
According to the Department of Meteorology, due to the active Southwest Monsoon, very strong winds may prevail in the Arabian Sea area and the sea areas may be very rough.
It is said that there is a risk of strong winds.
Winds will be south-westerly and wind speed will be (35-45) kmph.
Wind speed can increase up to (60-70) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil.
Wind speed can increase up to (50-55) kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Trincomalee to Kankasanthurai via Mallaitivu and Puttalam to Hambantota via Colombo and Galle.
Waves heights may increase (about 2.0–2.5 m) in the sea areas off the coast extending from Kalpitiya to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota (this is not for land area).
