The Ministry of Public Security announced that the police will seek a court order to arrest Assistant Superintendent of Police Sanjeeva Mahanama, who is accused of shooting at the vehicle of actor-turned-MP Uddika Premaratne.

The police will also record a statement from Premaratne regarding the incident. Minister of Public Security Tiran Alles stated that the investigation is being conducted with a fresh approach.

Earlier, Police Media Spokesman DIG Advocate Nihal Talduwa claimed the incident had been stage-planned. Initial investigations revealed that the ASP handed his firearm to another person at the airport before going abroad. The shooting attack on MP Uddika Premaratne's vehicle occurred on September 17 of last year.
